Convert bank statement PDF to QuickBooks (QBO)
QuickBooks Online will not import a PDF, and keying a statement into the bank register by hand defeats the point of using QuickBooks at all. StmtSnap converts your bank statement PDF into a QBO (Web Connect) file that QuickBooks reads natively, so every transaction lands in For review in one import.
The QBO export is on the Starter, Pro and Enterprise plans, alongside Excel, CSV, Tally XML and Zoho CSV from the same conversion. The free tier gives you Excel and CSV.

Before you convert: a text PDF stays on your device. If the PDF is a scan, we show a notice before any page is sent to Google Gemini, and scanned pages need a free account. Excel and CSV are free; Tally XML, QuickBooks QBO and Zoho CSV are on paid plans (pricing).
What the QBO file carries into QuickBooks
- Posted date, signed amount and DEBIT/CREDIT type on every line
- Description: the first 32 characters as the payee name, up to 255 in the memo
- A transaction ID (FITID) for every line, stable for the same statement
- Statement currency from the detected country (USD, GBP, AUD or INR)
- The ending balance: the printed closing balance, or the last row's balance
How to import the QBO file into QuickBooks Online
Each line's FITID is built from its date and its position within that day, so converting and importing the same statement twice produces the same IDs and QuickBooks skips the repeats. Two statements whose periods overlap are a different case: check the overlap days after import.
The QBO format is ASCII. Accented letters are folded to their plain form and other symbols (₹, £) are dropped from descriptions; amounts are unaffected. The account number in the file is the last four digits the statement prints, never the full number.
Questions
- Does QuickBooks Online accept the StmtSnap file?
- It is a standard OFX 1.0.2 Web Connect file with QuickBooks' bank ID header, which QuickBooks Online imports from Bank transactions → Upload from file.
- Will QuickBooks import the same transaction twice?
- Not if you re-import the same statement: every line keeps the same FITID and QuickBooks skips it. For two statements with overlapping dates, review the overlap.
- Is the QuickBooks export free?
- No. The .qbo file is on the Starter, Pro and Enterprise plans. The free tier gives you Excel and CSV.
- Does it work with QuickBooks Desktop?
- Web Connect files also import into QuickBooks Desktop via File → Utilities → Import → Web Connect Files.
- Which banks can I convert to QuickBooks?
- Any bank whose statement is a text PDF with a column header naming a date column and at least one money column (Debit/Credit, Withdrawal/Deposit, a single Amount, or Balance). A scanned PDF has no text to read, so it goes through the scanned-page path instead: you see a notice first, and it needs a free account.
